Our Habitat for Humanity service project turned out to be a lot of fun. Yes, it was just the 3 of us there this time so hopefully next spring more of you will come join us!
The morning started out with clearing a ditch of tumble weeds and bushes, then we tackled a very large pile of branches and garbage and put it all in the dumpster. This was a good task to put us on first to get us over the cold and the surprise that we were going to be doing exterior work instead of interiors as planned.
Brit and I heard a yelp and saw that Kia had disappeared into the dumpster! Talk about throwing yourself into your work.
The majority of our time was spent working on getting ready for the foundation to be poured. We secured the forms, then Mike (the builder) used the surveying equipment to tell us where to put marks to guide us as we made chalk lines and hammered in nails to guide the people who will pour the cement tomorrow.

We then placed 2x4s as more supports, hammered them in, hammered in stakes, then hammered nails thru the stakes into the 2x4s to hold everything in place. We hammered a lot.
Brittany insisted on precision. The foundation will be the straightest all because of her need to have things line up. 
Kia is a fantastic hammerer. She impressed Mike like no other guy he has ever worked with. Way to go!
We had a really good time working hard and entertaining ourselves when we started to get cold.
One of the highlights of the day was meeting this man who lives in one of the homes built by Habitat for Humanity. His wife is blind and has terrible allergic reactions to many different smells and chemicals so receiving a home from Habitat literally saved her life he told us. He likes to come over and chat with Mike who has built most of the homes in this development.
Plan on coming next time, it was so much fun! Thanks for a hard days work ladies!
